Charlie Parker with Strings

Our first tour for the year is set to take us on the road with Rodger Fox’s award-winning Big Band and American saxophonist Dick Oatts for Charlie Parker with Strings. Named for the ground-breaking albums recorded by the virtuosic BeBop giant Charlie Parker, the music will include Jazz standards that capture Parker’s legendary fast finger-work and evolving harmonic style. From 15—20 April we’ll be performing in Wellington, Palmerston North, Napier, Taupo, Tauranga, and Auckland. One of the highlights of this tour is sure to be playing at Tauranga’s annual Jazz Festival. Make sure you don’t miss an evening of swinging rhythms and lush strings with a twist of BeBop! “Dick Oatts playing contains a wonderful mix of influences, a direct line from Sonny Stitt, Johnny Hodges, Cannonball, Charlie Parker and Lee Konitz; even a hint of the 70s soulful rasp of David Sanborn in his younger days, mixed with his own ever-evolving, harmonically probing sensibility." – Gareth Lockrane, London Jazz News
