2022

Celebrating its 35th anniversary, 2022 sees the NZSQ collaborate with Grammy-winning Iraqui-American composer and oud player, Rahim AlHaj on an intimate and heartfelt tour 'Letters from Iraq' presented by Chamber Music NZ.


Festival appearances include the Adam Summer Celebration in Nelson, Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of the Arts and the Canberra International Music Festival. 

The Quartet coaches top string and piano students in the 26th Adam Summer School in Nelson and runs the Chamber Music Weekend for secondary school ensembles.

2021

2021 marked the 20th season of the NZSQ annual National Tour series, generously supported by the Turnovsky Endowment Trust.

The Quartet performed a further two national tours of over 25 performances combined, Transfigured Night in collaboration with BalletCollective Aotearoa presented by Chamber Music NZ; and Four Suits and a Soprano with Stars of the Stage. 

The Quartet presented its first-ever online concerts - The Digital Sessions, filmed on location at the Black Sparrow Bar, Wellington. 


CD release of Janáček’s complete string quartets and sonnets, released on the Naxos label. 

2020

In our 2020 season, the NZSQ presented Beethoven’s complete string quartets in its biggest-ever New Zealand-wide tour.

The Quartet coached top string students in the 26th Adam Summer School in Nelson and ran the Chamber Music Weekend for secondary school ensembles.

In a concert dedicated to New Zealand Music, the quartet livestreamed the premiere performance of NZ composer Louise Webster’s this memory of earth at the New Zealand School of Music.

2019

International tours to Germany, U.S. and Canada – including the quartet’s 15th straight season at Festival of the Sound and the NZSQ debut engagements at Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival and Sonnealp Music Festival, Bavaria.

The annual Adam Summer School for Chamber Music in Nelson celebrates 25 years.

Performances with American saxophonist Dick Oatts and the Roger Fox Big Band around New Zealand.

Performances in fourteen different concerts as part of the 15th biennial 12th Adam Chamber Music Festival, Nelson.

2018

Collaboration with taonga pūoro player Rob Thorne for Te Ao Hou | This New World as part of the NZ Festival’s Chamber Music Series.

Concerts with American pianist Diane Walsh in Auckland and Whanganui.

A tour with tenor Jared Holt to premiere a new song cycle, In Memoriam, by New Zealand composer Janet Jennings and set to poems by poet and soldier Edward Thomas, who was killed in the Battle of Arras in 1917.

A tour with pianist Piers Lane and double bassist Hiroshi Ikematsu for Chamber Music New Zealand.

Across two international tours the Quartet performed in Canada, the USA, Europe, and the UK, including performances in Romania for the first time, as part of the Tiberius Chamber Music Festival.

2017

Multiple performances at Adam Chamber Music Festival in Nelson, including collaborations with the Goldner Quartet and Hungarian pianist Dénes Várjon.

Tour of New Zealand with British pianist Kathryn Stott for Chamber Music New Zealand.

Performances of Cacti with Royal New Zealand Ballet on their Three by Ekman tour of New Zealand.

Three international tours to Canada, China, Singapore, Netherlands, Slovenia and Germany, including a concert at the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing and Festival of the Sound in Ontario.

Dangerous Liaisons national tour of New Zealand celebrating the quartet’s 30th anniversary.

Featured in two concerts during the 44th International Viola Congress in Wellington.

Collaboration with pipa virtuoso extraordinaire Wu Man in Wellington.

30th anniversary concerts in Auckland, Christchurch, and at Government House in Wellington.
