Turning Points Palmerston North

August 2018

Join us for a concert of groundbreaking works that have each taken the quartet genre in new directions. Mozart’s String Quartet in C, K465, acquired the nickname “Dissonance” several years after his death, undoubtedly due to the astonishing harmonic boldness of the first movement’s slow introduction. Despite its title, this quartet is one of Mozart’s most brilliant and high-spirited works. Two short works by Webern are featured: the achingly romantic Langsamer Satz and his quirky Bagatelles. And to round off the programme, the first of Beethoven’s extraordinary Razumovsky quartets.

NZSQ cellist Rolf Gjelsten says:

"We’re looking forward to sharing with you the genius and vision of these works as well as elucidating the qualities which make each work so remarkable."
